Dental Implants

Solutions for Missing Teeth

If you are embarrassed about having a missing tooth or struggle with a failing tooth, a properly chosen and fitted dental implant can give you the confidence to show off your smile again. Dental implants are designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth. They are an effective permanent solution and the gold standard of care for tooth replacement. They are also a great alternative to temporary or permanent bridges, or partial or complete dentures.

How Dental Implants Work

A dental implant is comprised of a threaded fixture that is surgically placed within the upper and/or lower jaw bone to replace the root of a tooth. The implant is connected to the crown or tooth you see above the gums by a screw-like component referred to as an abutment. Once an implant is placed within the bone it begins to integrate as your bone cells fuse to the implant. This is called osseointegration. When this process is complete, the dental implant becomes a stable anchor to support the tooth.

Why consider a dental implant:

  • They comfortably fit and feel like your natural teeth.
  • They strengthen bridges or dentals, making them more secure.
  • They preserve your facial and bone structure.
  • They prevent bone deterioration associated with tooth loss.
  • They can restore chewing and speech (ie. pronunciation).
  • They support your bite and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting.
  • They can restore a confident and sparkling smile.

Supporting Your Dental Implant Options

You (and your teeth, jaw and oral structure) are unique. Your periodontal solution needs to be as well. At Perio Clinic Oakville, we offer a multitude of options so that you achieve the dental implant that fits your mouth, oral habits and lifestyle — and lasts a lifetime.

Types of Dental Implants

At Perio Clinic Oakville, we offer medical-grade titanium implants, as well as ceramic implants for those patients who desire a metal-free fixture. Dental implants can be placed immediately or using a staged process, depending on local site factors as well as the patient’s general health.

During your consultation, Dr. Mohamed will evaluate your periodontal needs and create your personalized treatment approach to ensure that your implant procedure is a great success.

Treatment for Dental Implants

Dr Mohamed provides various dental implant treatment options depending on whether you are missing one, multiple, or all your teeth.

We offer:

Immediate Implants

Placed at the time of the extraction.

Teeth in a Day approach

Restores the tooth at the time of placement.

“All on Four” or “All on Six” Approach

For those who are missing all their teeth or who will require full mouth extractions. The implants are placed immediately and loaded with a fixed screw retained prosthesis.

When appropriate, immediate implant placement and immediate implant loading can shorten the time-to-teeth. It can also decrease the number of required periodontal visits. Advanced Implant Technology

Dr Mohamed uses some of the most advanced dental implant technology available today. We offer guided surgery solutions, which uses data from a CT scan of the patient’s jaws. The information is then used to complete a digital simulation of the surgery on a computer. A 3D printed surgical stent is then fabricated to guide the drills and implant into the exact digitally-planned position. The result: a more controlled, minimally-invasive, and pain-free experience.

Perio Clinic Oakville is one of only a handful of clinics around the entire world to offer Live Navigation Surgery for dental implants. This technology was created and has been used previously for brain and spine surgery. The Live Navigation Surgery system allows live guidance of the drills through the patient’s bone in real time. This incredible technology eliminates the need for a 3D printed stent and provides the safest approach to live dental implant placement.

Saving Your Implants — Peri-Implantitis

Since an implant cannot attach to the gums in the same way that natural teeth do, the gum stays loose around the area, which can allow bacteria to enter and cause inflammation and — at times — bone loss. This condition affects anywhere from 10 — 50% of implant patients. However, there is plenty you can do to prevent and treat peri-implantitis. This is where Perio Clinic Oakville comes in.

As a board-certified periodontist, Dr Mohamed is an expert at treating failing or ailing implants. His specialized field has provided the ideal skills needed to salvage implants that are plagued by bacterial infiltration, inflammation, and bone and tissue loss.

Treatment protocols vary and may include:

  • Using antiseptic therapy for treating mucositis or inflamed gum tissue surrounding the implants.
  • Tissue regeneration procedures involving gum and bone grafting to save a diseased and failing implant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental implant cost?

Since each implant case is different, it really depends on the treatment required. For example, some situations require bone augmentation or tissue grafting. If it’s a front tooth, it may require additional soft tissue work so that it looks natural. Dr. Mohamed will provide all the details during your in-person consultation. Our office also offers various payment plans to help you achieve your perfect smile.

How long does the procedure take?

An average straight forward implant can be restored with a crown within 3 months after placement. If it requires bone grafting then it will be done after the area has healed.

Does dental implant surgery hurt?

While it depends on the situation, most patients who undergo the procedure often say that is less painful than having a tooth removed. There are also minimal pain-sensing nerves in the bone where the implant is being positioned.

At Perio Clinic Oakville, our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible. We offer a variety of sedation options and use minimally-invasive techniques so that your recovery is quick.
